Meet Personal Care Worker, Joanne
Working in aged care presents an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in residents’ lives every day. Jo is a perfect example of how our team providing compassionate, person-centred care that supports each resident to live their best life – whatever that looks like to them.
Jo is a Quirindi local and has been a member of our team for over 13 years. She strives to create a positive environment, supporting residents with their daily care needs and helping them to feel safe, comfortable and as independent as possible.
What is the favourite part of your day?
Arriving in the morning, greeting the residents with a smile and helping to set them up for their day. I have a lot of respect for these people and love spending time finding out more about their favourite routines, families and news. Being a local, I know some of the residents and grew up with some of their children, so it’s always great to connect and share a story.
How do you think you’re making a difference?
I try to make sure the residents are happy and feel heard and cared for. I work hard to build trust so that everyone knows they can come to me for anything.
How does technology help you deliver better care?
I use the CareKeeper app to support resident wellbeing. It’s simple to use, holds all the information about individual care needs and alerts the team when something has changed. It also includes other important information about each resident, like their life story and interests, and that helps to start a meaningful and interesting conversation.
At Eloura, residents are at the heart of everything we do. We pride ourselves on getting to know and understand individual residents, and supporting them to maintain their interests, routines and connections to the people and places they love. We use innovation to help us deliver personalised, meaningful care.
