We’re having a ball working out for wellness
On Friday’s, our activities room at Eloura hums with energy and laughter as residents challenge themselves and each other in a series of fun activities designed to improve strength, balance and mobility.
Designed to be fun as well as challenging, the weekly sessions are led by accredited exercise physiologist, Drew, and are tailored to suit a wide range of physical abilities, ensuring everyone can participate. The evidence-based program features ball skills and a range of strength, dexterity and flexibility exercises.
There is also a strong focus on making exercise enjoyable with residents enthusiastically participating in interactive drumming sessions, Nerf target games and even dog therapy – all designed to encourage movement, co-ordination, companionship and even a bit of friendly competition.
Resident, Lynnette, says the classes are challenging, but lots of fun.
Exercise Physiologist, Drew, who runs the program says the benefits extend well beyond physical fitness. “One of the most rewarding parts of delivering the program is watching the residents grow in confidence each week. Improvements are not just seen in strength and balance, they are reflected in increased energy, greater independence and the smiles that come from exercising together,” he says.
The team is planning exciting new ways to keep residents motivated and engaged, like a special Oktoberfest day, more interactive games and utilising a range of new equipment to provide fresh challenges and opportunities.
